  • Announcement from professor Żylicz
    • My colleagues who work on the "regular" exam convinced me that my early exam could have been considered difficult for some students and unfair given the exercises/questions they plan to prepare.
    • Students who wish to complete the course with grades implied by the early exam given on May 27 should come and see me during my office hours; I will write the grades.
    • Students who took the early exam, but would like to forget it and to take the regular one, can do so; their results from the former will be disregarded.
    • Before I can write any final grades I need to see the tables with mid-term results and grades given by Teaching Assistants reflecting the class work; I also need to make sure that those who request the grading have passed class requirements ("zaliczenie ćwiczeń").
    • The following grading system (translating points for grades) will be applied by all lecturers and in all groups: 0-100 = 2 (fail), 101-120 = 3, 121-140 = 3+, 141-160 = 4, 161-180 = 4+, and 181-200 = 5.

  • General information
    • Contact: office hours are held Mondays 9.30 to 11.00, room 401 (fourth floor, to the left straight after the glass door). Other than that, jtyrowicz@wne.uw.edu.pl.
    • Please note I am away on conference 6th to 10th June - if you have any questions or doubts regarding the problem sets, contact me earlier.
  • Requirements
    • On student request, deadline for homeworks is moved to Monday each consecutive week. In general, a mark is given for a correct solution of a problem. Thus, by definition, one can get more than one point from each homework. All homework points have equal weights.
    • In addition, I agree to relax the requirement of e-mailing the proposal for the solution the night before the class - you may simply volounteer to solve a problem in class. All classwork points are worth the same.
    • At my discretion 30% of your final grade is left. These 30% will be assigned according to your scores resulting from classwork and homework. Those with the largest number of points will be given the highest percentage. Two separate rankings will be organised: for classwork and for homework. A final rank will be an unweighted average of the two.
  • Information board:
    • Dr Tomek Kopczewski is organising extra classes for students of all groups interested in solving some of the potential exam problems with him. Should you be willing to participate in such classes, they will take place next week in the afternoons - contact Dr Kopczewski for further details.
